A Christmas Reflection: Interment of Ashes β¨π
by Steve Pritchard-Jones

Christmas is a time of light, love, and memories. For many families, itβs also a moment when we feel the absence of loved ones a little more deeply.
One gentle way to honour them is through an interment of ashes β creating a peaceful place to visit not just at Christmas, but all year round.
π What Is the Interment of Ashes?
It simply means placing a loved oneβs ashes in a permanent resting place β a cemetery, churchyard, garden, woodland, or even private land.
Thereβs no right or wrong way.
Some families hold a formal service, others prefer something small and personal.
This can happen weeks, months, or even years after the funeral β whenever the family feels ready.

π Who Leads the Ceremony?
- Churchyards: usually led by a minister or celebrant
- Cemeteries, natural burial grounds or private spaces: a celebrant (like me) can create a personal, meaningful service
- Families can also speak themselves if they prefer
π² Where Can Ashes Be Interred?
β¨ Churchyards & cemeteries
β¨ Private gardens or family land (with permission)
β¨ Woodland or natural burial sites
β¨ Columbariums (above-ground resting places)

Each option offers a special way to remember a loved one, especially during the festive season.
π Other Ways to Remember
Some families choose to scatter ashes in a meaningful place, or keep a small portion in memorial jewellery or glass keepsakes β a lovely way to feel close at Christmastime.
π This Christmas
If youβre thinking about an interment of ashes or simply need some guidance at a tender time, Iβm here to help.
Together we can create a ceremony filled with love, peace, and remembrance.
