The Loss of a Child: A Grief No Parent Should Have to Face

There are some losses for which words will never feel enough. The death of a child, whether during pregnancy, in infancy, in childhood or as an adult, is one of them.When a child dies, parents do not simply grieve for the person they have lost. They may also grieve for the future they imagined: birthdays that will not be celebrated, milestones that will not be reached, conversations that will not take place and memories that will not now be made.
No two parents will experience this loss in exactly the same way. There is no correct way to grieve, no timetable to follow and no point at which someone should be expected to have “moved on.” Grief is deeply personal, and the love between a parent and child does not end with death.
